<P>In a partial response to your question, last October I walked from Somport to Santiago. I flew to and from Paris, so I simply took trains Paris-Pau and Pau-Oloron. SNCF (the French Railway <A href="http://www.sncf.fr">http://www.sncf.fr</A> ) runs a bus from Oloron (the bus stop is in front of the Gare) to Canfranc Estacion via Somport, and one can get from Canfranc Estacion (not Canfranc pueblo) to Oloron on the return trip. The fare, collected in cash on the bus was 75 Francs, or about 10 Euros. There are trains between Madrid and Jaca and there is an infrequent train (once a day out of ski season, I believe) between Jaca and Canfranc Estacion. Check <A href="http://www.renfe.es">http://www.renfe.es</A> and have a good map of the area handy when you do as the website requires you to be very specific about places and regions. Other than the Oloron to Canfranc bus, I am not aware of bus routes.</P>
<P>By the way, I doubt that it is a good idea to go to Pamplona from Madrid enroute to Somport and Oloron. The most direct route from Madrid to Somport and on to Oloron is via Zaragoza and Huesca. I have a bias favoring trains, and the journey can be made by train over that route. A glance at a map of the the highway network suggests Zaragoza-Huesca-Jaca is the best routing for a bus trip as well.</P>
<P>Although I have walked in the Pyrenees, I am afraid I am not familiar with Gurs.</P>
<P>On a nice day, the walk over the Somport Pass is spectacular, and the entire Camino Aragonese from Somport to Puente la Reina is strongly recommended, especially for those who like a more solitary walk than the Camino Frances now offers.</P></DIV>
