Rae - I'd like to add my 2 cents (or sense) to your dilemma - As
you have probably guessed, there are as many answers and/or solutions to
the footgear issue as their are Pilgrims - First of all, I'm a runner,
trail and road, averaging about 50 - 60 miles a week, so my feet and ankles
are tough - From my standpoint, I will never go again with boots, but will
use sandals - I hiked the Camino this spring - I started in old, but little
used hiking boots and had few problems, a couple of minor blisters, but
overall, they worked - However, due to circumstances, I needed ( I thought)
to buy a pair of sandals in Carrion de los Condes - I had a choice
between cheap ones for lounging around, or expensive ones ($45.00) for
hiking - I chose the latter and will never go back to anything else - I
purchased 'Trail Sandals' (not the brand, but the type) in a sporting goods
store - Designed for hiking with thick soles and cushy insides, plus various
adjustements for fit - I don't remember the brand or model, but REI or
Road Runner Sports carries the type -It rained a couple of days, no problem
- No problem with puddles - Also, you learn to pick up your feet in leaves
and little sticks - There is no problem with 'breathing' or perspiration,
obviously - I saw many people hiking with them, one couple from Le Puy
in France, they were out 60 + days - And, they are relatively light and
very comfortable -

I know some will disagree with me, but as I said, there are lots
of opinions and choices -

Buenos, Bonjour, Howdy... I'm
going to list a few names of shoes and I was wondering if anyone has worn
any of these brands on the camino. I would like to get some feedback
from your experiences with the most essential piece of equipment for this
trip. How do they feel? Stiff? soft? Keep you dry?
Mid, low or high? Gortex? Blisters? Heavy? light? you get my
drift. 1. Zamberlan2. Lowa (Klondike GTX) (Mid Strata)3. Merrell4.
