<P>In 1998 I walked from St. Jean to Santiago in generally quite good weather, leaving September 20 and arriving on October 20. Most days were cloudy, something that is actually welcome when walking out in the open, but usually the sun broke through for a part of the day. There was only one day of heavy rain (from Cebreiro to Palas) with sprinkles on a several other days. It was windy between Burgos and Leon, but only the last few hours walking into Burgo Ranero were difficult because of wind. Earlier rains made some of the camino rather muddy, notably across the Pyrenees and later on the route into Estella. There were a few quite chilly nights, especially at some of the higher elevation places. I met a French couple making a second pilgrimage, and they said the weather in the same period of 1997 was much warmer and sunny. Once in Santiago, the weather was typical of the region, damp, chilly and foggy, but that weather!
