Recently some of the users of GOCAMINO have voiced their
frustration with having to read too many messages and at the same time
many of those messages are, to them, trivial, or they have handled that
same info many times. Others want to opine intellectually.

While the FAQ can rectify some of this, as a new kid on the block, I want
to read anything that's written because I want to learn all I can. When I
plan to actually walk the trail, I need to get the details on the
mechanics of the Pilgrimage as well as become educated on all the more
intellectual items. However with the intellectual items I cannot engage
myself in a dialog with a veteran as I know nothing about all the
neuances of the trip.

As I read and time goes on, I get bored with some of the same stuff and
never really could care less about A saying thank you to B. Yet as I
become more bored with the mechanics, the are numerous new people taking
up where I once was and digesting the data that has become trival to
me.

In checking up on the operationg procedures of GOCAMINO, I find that you
cannot turn off the messages being sent to you once anyone submits a
message. Other list services such as Yahoo, ListBot and others, give the
participant the option of having the messages automatically sent, as
GOCAMINO does, or not sent. These folks that don't receive their messages
automatically go into the archives and peruse the subjects and bring up
what they want. Having this option would placate some of the current
participants.

However if two lists were operated, one dealing with the mechanics,
mostly for us new timers, and an intellectual subject list so folks like
Kathy Glover and Jessica can submit data on ley lines, art, architecture,
and the like. Also they should be encouraged to post such info even tho
there are no initial takers as one participant recently complained. Those
of us could then decide to subscribe to both or one or the other. I
wonder what problems this solution would encounter?

Also when A says thanks to B, they can do it directly rather than thru
the "REPLY" function.

Hopefully this has been of some help.
