Just curious if this is new?  I walked in 2007 and while I did not carry a 
phone, I walked for a while with a German lady who did and she often (not 
always) called ahead for reservations.  The places seemed to be pilgrim 
refugios, not private places, but I suppose they could have been 
"unofficial".
