Hello you all,
Susana, the lovely secretary of the Santiago Archconfraternity was married today. The wedding took place in Padron, in the church built on the very spot where it is believed that Santiago did his preaching during his sojourn in Spain.
Susana, a psychologist by training, has been attending to the members of the Archconfraternity for several years at the Archconfraternity office on Quintana Square, right next door to the Holy Door.
Because of the location of the office, in addition to Archconfraternity members, loads of pilgrims and other people stream in and out of the office, with all sorts of questions and requests (some very odd), all day long. Susana's invariable good humor and Job-like patience is a wonder.
She and Mari (the delightful multilingual manager of the pilgrims' office, who herself got married last year) have traveled the world over, as emissaries of the Archconfraternity and the Pilgrims Office, at the behest and invitation of Santiago confraternities and Friends the Camino Associations from many countries. Slightly over one year ago they came to New York.
In addition, Susana spent some time in Brasil to perfect her Portuguese, even although, as languages go, Portuguese and Galician are two peas from the same pod.
While presumably the decision to marry was pretty much influenced by the female "biological clock" (the Spanish word for marriage is "matrimonio" which connotes motherhood), both Mari and Susana intend to devote their time and efforts to the Archconfraternity and to pilgrims this Xacobean Holy Year. Their abilities are most certainly needed. During the last Holy Week alone, despite the closings for religious observances, the Pilgrims' Office dispensed 8,500 Compostelas!
If those of you who have enjoyed the benefits of Susana's good offices wish to congratulate her in her nuptials you can send her an e-mail to Archconfraternity at planalfa.es I'm sure she'll be delighted.
Hugs!
Rosina
