LePuy to Conques: Far harder than anything on the Camino Francés. Lots
of ups and downs and can be very slippery in the rain. Snow possible
even as late as the end of May. The scenery is magnificent. The town
of Conques is especially great.
Moissac to Roncevaux: A lot easier. The scenery isn't in the class of
LP to C, but the town of Moissac is well worth the visit. I strongly
recommend the gîte (and chambre d'hotes) "Ultreia" in Moissac as a
good place to spend the first night:

I saw a lot of busses in Conques, but I am afraid that they were all
tour busses.
Notes on SJPdeP to Roncevaux: Best done as a two day thing, stopping
at Orisson (or Hountto) on the Route Napoleón or at Valcarlos on the
"highway route." The highway route is a bit longer and supposed to be
easier, but on taking the two so-called short cuts of that route, I
found it to be much harder than the Route Napoleón. Staying on the
road the whole way would have been longer in miles, but shorter in
time. The road is a steady doable climb, but the short cuts have a lot
of unnecessary downgrades, so there is a lot more climbing and the
trails were very brushy (also extremely wet on the day that I did
them). I suppose that if you are young and vigorous and have
functional knees, the trail shortcuts are probably not a problem.

MY WIFE AND I ARE PLANNING TO WALK EITHER FROM LE PUY TO CONQUES OR
FROM MOISSAC TO RONCEVALLES THIS MAY. I WOULD APPRECIATE COMMENTS
ABOUT COMPARISON BETWEEN THESE TWO WALKS. I HAVE SOME GENERAL
QUESTION ABOUT THE DIFFICULTY OF THE CAMINO IN FRANCE COMPARED TO THE
CAMINO IN SPAIN. I ALSO WONDER IF THERE IS ANY REASONABLY
EFFICIENT BUS SERVICE FROM CONQUES TO ST. JEAN PIED DU PORT.
