Hello you all,

I didn’t get a chance to post the 2008 pilgrims data from Vienna because I got involved in a myriad things. Over the past few years Vienna has become my favorite city in Europe (perhaps anywhere) and in the month of January it simply glitters.  And, yes, among the hundreds of Balls held there before Mardi Gras (the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday), there is now a Pilgrims’ Ball, right up there with the Museum Employees and the Informatica (computers) technicians Balls.  There may be an economic downturn around the world, but you could not guess it by the exciting and plush going ons in Vienna.

By the way, the entire city is now wired up for wireless computing and the Viennese run around with little computers and turn them on to get into the internet wherever they are (waiting for the tram, at a park, in the wine taverns (“Heurigen”) where one drinks the wine made the day before, etc.  Several people told me that they got those little computers on line and that they are manufactured in the USA…. Yet, they don’t seem to be sold here…… The computer brand and model is ASUS EEE PC and they cost about 350 dollars. Those using them love them and threw away their Blackberrys.

Any idea where I can get a hold of one here?  Must I wait until I go to Seville for Holy Week and order one there so that it can be sent from the USA?  It sounds a littler wild.

Anyway, here goes a summary of the 200820stats. I’ll try to post more detailed information over the weekend.

Here I’ll place the 2007 relevant figures in parenthesis… OK?
