I shared a room with 3 others at La Posada, an inn across from the dormitory
at Roncesvalles.
My Opinion about taking the Bus....
One of the fascinating aspects of the Camino is the contrasts between modern
and old, ugly and beautiful, etc. I think taking the Camino as a whole
increases the experience, and you can start to see it as a metaphor for
Life. I remember well that dull stretch entering Burgos, but one of my best
and fondest memories of the Camino was coming into Burgos with a new found
friend and stumbling upon a Frutas y Verduras store where we bought the
juiciest, sweetest oranges I have ever tasted. We sat on a bench and
enjoyed them right in front of the store. If I would have bused in, I would
not have had that experience.
I did use a bus on two occasions, it was entering and leaving Leon. But it
was not to avoid the urban walking, it was because my feet (coincidentally)
at that time were had some bad blisters and the start of tendonitis and I
figured that giving them a little rest was a good thing. The Bus Station
was very cheap and convenient, so I took one from Mansilla to Leon and then
the next day out to Virgin del Camino. My feet made it the rest of the way
to Finisterra with out the help of a motor vehicle. I did not feel less
of a pilgrim for using the bus.
Just follow your heart.
