[Gocamino] Via Podiensis

Hello all--I'm planning to walk the Via Podiensis in the fall, from Le Puy across the Pyranees to Pamplona (I hope, if I have enough time).  

Question:  In France, is there much route-finding needed?  Some sources suggest taking topo maps as well as the published guides.  I thought the route, which is also the GR65, was well-marked.  

Any help with this from those who have walked the Le Puy route will be appreciated.
