This is most distressing news.   Much of the uncontrolled fires are in the 
Pontevedra province where I completed most of the Portuguese route just last 
month.   

Eucalyptus-- it is a cash crop and sad to say, it's impact is being studied 
and was determined not to be such a good thing.   It ruins the land for growing 
much of anything else is one problem.   Flammability is the one other problem 
with it.   Don't know how this will play out in agricultural policy in the 
region.
