 Hello again,
The Codex Calixtinus makes several references to Vesper (evening) services held by, and for, ancient pilgrims; the purpose was to bring together the pilgrims that arrived at Santiago for prayers and so that they would get to meet one another. With the decline of the pilgrimage because of wars and other compelling reasons the vespers disappeared.
This year the Delegation of Pilgrims has decided to revive the Vespers to bring together those pilgrims that arrive in Santiago "Pietatis Causa" to the Apostle's sepulcher so that they may pray together and meet one another. The first such Vespers service, meant exclusively for pilgrims, was held at the Cathedral on Saturday, July 22; there was another one last Saturday and they will continue to be held every Saturday evening from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m. until the end of September. While somewhat religious in character the reunions, around the Cathedral's altar, are meant to be rather informal gatherings.... pretty much, I would think, like those that follow the evening Pilgrims' Mass in Santo Domingo de la Calzada.

For safety measures attachments cannot be sent through listservs; consequently, the engraving mentioned in the San Juan de la Penha message did not go through. It is quite lovely, really; let me know if you'd like to get it and I'll send it directly.
Big hug!
Rosina
