In 2000 my then boyfriend (now husband) and I started
our Camino journey. We also flew to Madrid and we
chose to rent a car and drive to Pamplona. We did
this becuase by the time our plane arrived we would
not make the last train to Pamplona and we did not
want to lose any time. Anyways the next day we got up
and went to the bus station to see when the bus to
Pamplona left and then went to have lunch. At about 2
hours before the bus was to leave my boyfriend
suggested we go onto the bus station since you have to
buy the tickets from the driver on the bus and wait
there. I was in total disagreement and wanted to sit
around and drink for cafe :-) but we went... and he
was right. When the bus pulled in we got in line and
the tickets and bus were full in less than 20 minutes
and the bus left 45min before the planned departure
since it was already full. We did not know at that
time how we were going to get from Roncevalles to
SJPP. While on the bus we met a Spanish couple that
invited us to share their pre-arranged taxi with them
to SJPP- they were our lifesaver. It goes back to the
saying you will hear and feel during your camino is
that the camino provides just what you need when you
need it most. As a side note - we are still friends
with the couple and have vacation in Spain and the US
with them. There is a bar in Roncevalles that may be
able to help you arrange a taxi for SJPP- there is one
because that is where we waited for ours to arrive.
