Claudia  and others  Please do not even let me get started on the Spanish Dominion of Sicily please !!! And the expulsion by Spain of the Jews in the South of Italy. 
Spanish Dominion commences roughly 1375 and it remained a province of the Castilian Empire until oh about 1525. Then Thenn under Spanish "administration" from 1500 to 1650. The revolt in Palermo in 1647 followed by that in Messina about 1675.  Eccola, finally the end of Spanish Dominion in 1713. 

Can we move on now?  I just want to illustrate that this thread can go beyond necessary !

  As I tried to explain in my posting, I feel powerless against the amount of
  historical falsity that has been spread in our minds in the last 200 years,
  so I normally never take these subjects because I think it is useless. If
  the Western world has decided to commit a cultural suicide, it is its own
  choice, which of course I disagree with.
