We reached Santiago de Compostela last September and the train back to
Madrid was sold out for the following 2 days. Since we were going back
to Poland, we didn't want to spend one day on the train just traveling
to Madrid. We were surprised how inexpensive (can't remember the exact
fare) the flight to Madrid was. No advance purchase - next day flight.
The airline was Air Europa.
Sometimes when you purchase your tickets at the last minute, it's better
to buy a round trip ticket and just use the first half. That's what we
did for the Madrid-Warsaw. It was about 1/3 cost of the one-way ticket.
