Another packing list

In response to Daniel's questions, I do not remember the exact weight of my pack, but I believe it was around 20 pounds, not counting my boots. I would have to repack it according to my list to be sure.

I used almost everything on the list, with the following exceptions:
I did not use the rain chaps, the poncho seemed like enough.
I don't remember using the garbage bag or the wool mittens.
I did not use the long underwear bottoms, but I should have at Samos, where I got very cold.
The duffel bag, my "disposable" carryon bag, and some paperwork got mailed to myself in Santiago, so I used them, but not on the trail.
I used less than half of the contents of the red and white ditty bags. However, those items are just in case items, so I only expected to use a fraction of the contents. The first aid kit and sewing kit got used, along with some other odds and ends.

I probably have a different theory of packing than some people. I believe that if I used everything that I brought, that would mean that I had not brought enough. For example, I get a little nervous when I put on my last article of clothing in the winter, because that means that I have used up 100% of my safety margin. To put it another way, if I have no extra clothing to put on, then hypothermia is now a possibility.

Richard,
Your list is very complete. It makes me curious on two facts: what did
your pack weigh and how much of the list did you use.?
