Hello you all,
A couple of doors from the pilgrims' office a new hotel has opened in Santiago.
The Hotel Rua Villar (at 8-10 of the Rua) occupies a refurbished eighteenth century building and it is a combination hotel and exhibition hall. The hotel has fourteen rooms, 3 single, 8 double and 3 double de luxe. All the rooms have their own bathroom and are equipped with Internet ADSL connection, plasma TV, DVD and CD player, minibar, safe deposit box and air conditioners.
Every room has oil and water color Santiago-themed paintings by the Santiago renowned artist Estela Pintos, whose bronze sculptures can also be admired throughout the hotel.
Works by other notable Spanish artists, such as Jose Maria Sicilia, Viola, Lucio Munos, Julio Romero de Torres, Miro, Chillida and others can be admired in the common areas of the hotel as well as in the corridors throughout the building's four stories.
The hotel owner, Antonio Torreiro, has created the hotel as a mini-museum in concordance with the status of Santiago, his native city, as a worldwide cultural patrimony.
The hotel sounds like a wonderful way to reward oneself after the travails of the long walk, and, of course, it is right next door to the Cathedral; who could ask for anything more?
Warm regards,
Rosina
