Hello you all,
Yesterday Msgr. Julian Barrio, Archbishop of Santiago, inaugurated a new
Xacobean library at the Cathedral that will be open to pilgrims. The Archbishop
said that the new library symbolizes a "cultural offer from the archival library
of the Cathedral"
There are other important Xacobean libraries in Santiago: one in the
Theological Institute, one in the University of Compostela, one in the Galician
Culture Council, one in the Father Sarmiento Institute and one in the Museum of
Pilgrimages.
The new library in the Cathedral, however, will make freely available
historical Xacobean documents that heretofore have only been seen by scholars,
writers and investigators upon special requests.
Also,
The necessary facilities have been almost completed to allow visits by the
general public to the roofs of the Cathedral, another privilege heretofore
allowed only to a few. Visitors to the roof will be limited to a certain number per
hour, on a first come first served basis, commencing in May.
Warm regards,
Rosina
