The route from Vezelay - north vs. south

The north and the south routes from Vezelay actually split at Vezelay, leaving Vezelay in different directions. The north route goes through Bourges, and the south through Nevers. The split is about ten days walking, and the two routes join at Gargilesse. I had to go back and look harder at the map and itinerary to figure this out.

Biking might be a more realistic plan for traveling 1700 km than walking, perhaps I should look at the Selby book. But walking is much more traditional.

Is the split just after the start?

> It starts in Vezelay, near Dijon and Auxerre, southeast of Paris. The
route splits into a north and south branch near Vezelay, then joins back
into one route, and ends at St. Jean Pied de Port, a common starting point
for the French route to Santiago.
