 From every thing I have read, I am convinced that there will be a fair
number of pilgrims on that route this year, at least on the Galician
portion of the route. I don't think that it will have that much effect
on the routes through Portugal, since there is no clearly defined
single route and there is almost no infrastructure. Santiago pilgrims
in that country are on their own and staying wherever they can find
lodging. Even if there are other pilgrims, you might not meet them,
since there are no special places for pilgrims to stay and meet. The
section from Tui to Santiago is well marked and has several refugios,
so there is ample opportunity to meet any other pilgrims that happen to
be on the road at the same time. It is also a long enough route to
qualify for the compostela.
