Starting at Le Puy: public transport for Helen Burns

Dear Helen,
It is not really possible to follow the entire Chemin de St. Jacques/GrR 65
from Le Puy to SJPP by public transport (if you mean trains and busses),
especially in the first section from Le Puy to Conques. The route goes
roughly East to West across the Aubrac Plateau. It is rugged, much up and
down in river valleys and through very scantily populated areas. The
transportation routes tend to run north and south. The best you can do is
to hire taxis or local drivers to take you "across"; this is feasible; you
have to ask around in the villages.
West and South of Conques, there are more buses, and if you take the school
bus from Conques to Decazeville, there is a train to Figeac. It would
still be necessary to resort to hiring drivers west of Figeac except around
Cahors; there is a train from Cahors to Moissac, through Montauban, and
there are more buses in parts of the stretch from Moissac to SJPP.

A combination of walking, public transport and taxis would work for you.

The Confraternity of ST. James http://www.csj.org.uk/
green guide to the Le Puy route is helpful about public transport, and the
local tourist offices will have just local day by day information. Have a
great and beautiful adventure on this wondrous route!

Best wishes,
Judy Nollar
