the numbers

Or consider a different route. It means a lot to me to do the route in a Holy Year. So I will walk the Via de la Plata. It is normally quite deserted, but it had 52 peregrinos in January. That's okay, spread out over 600 miles...not too crowded!

Admittedly, I think everyone who can should do the Frances at least once. I plan to repeat it in the future, after it's current faddish popularity has died a bit. Someone mentioned 2007. That might be a good year to repeat the Frances, for me.

Hi,

I’m getting discouraged. I had hoped to walk the entire camino de Santiago starting from the Pyrenees this coming fall, but the numbers for the Holy year are scaring me. I am not good with crowds, and I want to do this as pilgrimage where I take each day as it comes, without telephone and without reservations, just walking and learning to trust. But the numbers frighten me. I had been thinking of starting at the beginning of October. Maybe I should find a different walk and do el camino de Santiago at another time.
