train travel

I need to return to Barcelona by train after reaching Santiago. The best
way for my connections is the overnight via Orense, a train with first
class only. For reasons of economy I would rather not purchase a bed but
in some countries I believe that is mandatory when travelling First. Can
anyone tell me is travelling First in Spain without a bed but sitting up
all night is permissable. Thanks.
