Bilboa to St Jean

If my memory serves me correctly, a bus from Bilbao left for Hendaye
(France) just before noon. I made the mistake of getting off in Irun
(Spain) and ended up taking a taxi to the station in Bayonne. I got
there at about two in the afternoon. I was not taking the train to
SJPP, but another pilgrim at the station said that it left at about six
and would get into town in the early evening. (The train was on time
that day. My bus to Saint Palais was scheduled to leave at almost
exactly the same time, but it was late.)

It seems like a long way around to go to SJPP by way of Pamplona
instead of the more direct route along the coast. I can see one
advantage to going by way of Pamplona. It gives you a preview of the
part of the route that you will be walking - that might be worthwhile.

Note the difference between Irun and Iruñea. Irun is quite close to the
coast and to the border. Iruñea is the Basque name for Pamplona.
