Because of the heartfelt and generous inquiries I have received,
funds for the Pilgrim Office and Don Jaime Garcia can be sent to:

American Pilgrims on the Camino
c/o Z. Macy, Treasurer
1514 Channing Avenue
Palo Alto, California 94303

We will collect funds until May 4th when then will be deposited in the
account below for use of the Pilgrim Office in Spain and the successors to
the work of Don Jaime. Any greetings will be sent directly to him.

American pilgrims is an american legal entity but is not limited to
americans; pilgrims come from all over the world

This is the message from the Pilgrim's Office, through Rosina who was kind
enough to translate:

"Here is the answer that I got from the folks at the Pilgrims' office.
A
translation thereof follows below:"

Please read:

Estimada Rosina:
Jamás me molestará! Perdona si no te contesté inmediatamente. Mi hermano no
M.I. Señor
Don Jaime García Rodríguez.
Pescadería Vella, 11
15"704. SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA.
GALICIA
Sp"ain

Translation of Juan Jose's message. (he is the director of the whole
enterprise; a 65ish Ph.D. he is also quite involved and convincing all the
Archdiocese's parish to learn computer use and establish an electronic net
of communication with the Archdiocese. Many of the priests are in their
eighties and not terribly enthusiastic about the idea; nevertheless Juan
Jose, much to his credit, plows on).

"Dear Rosina. Your messages will never annoy me. Forgive me for not
answering right away. My brother did not come home to eat for two days, and
the third day I didn't go, so we couldn't discuss your message. (***note:
his brother, another Ph.D., will be replacing Don Jaime as the head of
services for pilgrims in Santiago). I am now answering it with great
pleasure.
1. You can write Don Jaime directly without problems. There will always be
someone to read his correspondence to him. You cannot send e-mail messages
because he doesn't have a computer Here is his address: Don Jaime Garcia
Rodriguez
                                         Pescaderia Vella, 11
                                         15704 Santiago de Compostela;
Galicia, Spain

Computers. I am very touched by the offer to help us better the computer
system in the Pilgrims' Office. I've thought about it and I have discussed
with my brother who will take Don Jaime's place there. The most effective
way to help us would be to send us the means for us to obtain the equipment
here. Sending computers from the United States would be extremely
expensive, besides such equipment can be gotten here not only for a lot
less, but also the newest generation. (?). The Euro-Dollar relationship at
the time has decreased considerably the cost of such equipment when it comes
from the Far East and it is paid for in dollars. Today they have delivered
to us the (old) computer with the assurance that it will function, and
Monday we will begin to install the means to input (pilgrims') data so that
we may have dispose of information on a daily basis. If we had better
equipment we could do a far better job. And here, between your love and
caring God will reward you all.
How can you make remittances? Through the BBVA (Bank of Bilbao and Viscay
Argentaria in Santiago de Compostela, city agency of the Preguntorio (?) for
the account of the Interdiocesan Camino of Santiago Commission. The number
of the account is 0182-0677-37-0011500243.
We'd thank you to notify us so that we will know that such remittance is to
be used for the improvement of the computers in the Office (of pilgrims).
That is all.
I am here at your disposal (for whatever you may need to know, or do),
thanking you for the generous intent which comes, no doubt, from knowing of
the very limited resources with which we function and from love of the
Apostle and of Christ for whom he (Santiago) gave his life.
An affectionate greeting in the spirit of the Lord and of Santiago.
Juan Jose Cebrian Franco"

Well...here you have it.
I'd suggest that you notify the lists that contributions should be made to
your group since they would be tax deductible. (Under the Internal Revenue
Code contributions to foreign entities are not only not deductible.... but
the donor may be liable for gift taxes, as Shirley McLaine found out when
she gave half of the profits from her book to Camino societies, etc. in
Spain; however when a duly recognized US not-for-profit organization makes
gifts abroad in pursuit of their declared purposes such expenditures are
legitimate. I, of course, will contribute, and will do anything else that I
may do. Just let me know.

Rosina

from Kathy:
A check to American Pilgrims on the Camino, a legal, tax-exempt entity is
probably what is in order, if there are those pilgrims who would like to
take this up. There is no obligation and responding is out of your own free
will. Please delete if you are not interested. If you are, please contact
me off-list.
