Children on Camino??

Has anyone had experience with children on the (whew!) Route de Napoleon from St. Jean
Pied De Port to Roncesvalles?

My son and daughter-in-law  (very fit) want to take their 10 year old son over the pass in
May (not whole Camino,  just this one day) This young boy is a hockey player, very
energetic, and anxious to go, but --am I an over protective "Grand Mary"?-- it seems too
arduous and  risky for a child (to me).  I've suggested another segment of the Road, but
to no avail. ANy thoughts?
