Hello you all,
The Santiago Cathedral's Archbishop, Monsignor Julian Barro, the mayor of
Santiago, and the president of the Galician Xunta have announced the changes
agreed upon regarding the Cathedral that will take place next year. To wit:
There will be six Pilgrim Masses daily instead of one: at 8:00 a.m.,
10:00 a.m., 12:00 noon, 1:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The Cathedral will only be open to tourists between 2:00 and 5:30 p.m.,
and preference will be given to organized groups.
There will be twenty polyglot priests available for confessions at all
times, with emphasis, besides Spanish, on French, Italian, English and German
speaking confessors.
The archbishop has gone to Rome to obtain Vatican approval for this
timetable and for other Xacobean Holy Year
celebrations.
The archbishop explained that these changes were necessary because the
Cathedral is, first and foremost, a Catholic Church meant to tend to the
spiritual needs of Christians. The archbishop stated that three Cathedrals would not
suffice to accommodate all visitors, and that its original religious purpose
would necessarily be given precedence.
Regards,
Rosina
