Either will do, but **light-weight** is what matters

Bunks and mattresses nearly always available. Pads not usually necessary,
but you might very occasionally find you've only got a floor.

Pillows sometimes available, sometimes not. I found no problem managing
without.

>  Are the dorms and facilities co-ed?

Yes.

>Any thoughts on simplicity?

The simpler the better!
