Why July 25th?

In fact, this is the case for many, if not most saints' feast days -- the date of their deaths is their feast day.  I think the rationale you provide is the reason -- it's a day for celebration.

        I think that the rationale for calling the day of beheading a "feast day" is that this day of mortal death was seen as his birthday into heaven. Life was not ended but changed for the better.
