lunch at the 5 stars hotel at Santiago

This one is not a myth....

After you get your "Compostella" in Santiago quickly make a photocopy and
then you are able to get 3 days of free breakfasts, lunches and dinners at
the 5 star hotel in the same square as the Cathedral. The hotel was once the
site of the last refugio or hospital on the Camino where pilgrims arriving
in Santiago were welcomed for 3 days free of charge. The hotel still honors
that tradition...

...the catch....they only accept 10 pilgrims per meal...so go early and line
up. Also, as you might have guessed....dirty, haggered and all-around
enlightened pilgrims don't exactly mix well with the rest of the "5 star
guests"...they have a special "pilgrims dinning room" somewhere in the back
of the hotel and you actually line up in the parking garage down the hill
and to the left of the front entrance with a PHOTOCOPY of your Compostella
and wait for a porter to take you in.

But not to worry, the food was great and the staff was extremely nice and
hospitable, even creating vegetarian plates for those who did not want the
pre-set meal. The dinning room was comfortable and neither time I went were
there all 10 places filled. Wine was also included...can't beat that!
