How about children? I'm interested in knowing how many youngsters go on the
Camino.
I'm planning to go this summer with two ten year olds & would like to know
both how many others go---and perhaps find some folks who have gone with
kids and get their experiences.

Hello you all,
The Compostela magazine shows 102 different points of pilgrimage departure;
most are, naturally, in Spain itself. But many pilgrims are listed as
commencing the pilgrimage in other countries.

The largest number of pilgrims, 9,311, started out in Sarria which is the
most convenient point for those pilgrims who only walk the last 100
kilometers. The other most popular points were, in descending order:
Roncesvalles with 7,545; Saint Jean Pied de Port with 6,974, O Cebreito with
5,885; Ponferrada with 5,628; Leon with 5,120; Astorga with 4,382; Pamplona
with 2,384; and Burgos with 2,270.
Besides those beginning the pilgrimage at SJPP, 1,695 pilgrims are listed
as
starting out in Le Puy, 29 in Paris and 1,132 in other places in France.
492 pilgrims started out in Holland, 367 in Germany, 273 in Belgium, and 27
in Italy.
Three pilgrims began the pilgrimage in Poland, three in Jordan, one in
Luxembourg, one in Hungary and one in Lithuania.
If you want specific information about a town or country not listed above,
let me know.
It is worthy of notice, to me, to know that 762 pilgrims commenced their
pilgrimage in Somport, 271 in Jaca and 467 in Sevilla. -Both the Aragonese
part of the French Way and the Silver Way are longer that the French Way-
Again, let me know if there is anything else you'd like to know about the
2002 pilgrims.
Warm regards from a presently freezing New York City.
Rosina
