Presumably Europe is taken as anywhere from Ireland and Portugal in the
west to Russia in the east and Norway in the north to Spain in the south -
 "Europe" tends to be a flexible definition nowadays depending on how you
want to use it.

Turkey, which always used to be in Asia Minor, wants to become part of the
European Community and when it comes to the cringingly awful "European Song
Contest" (if you've never seen it be glad, be very, very glad!) even Israel
manages to squeeze inside the boundary!
