Starting at Le Puy

Heen, I walked from Le Puy to Conques this past September and will continue
on this April/May. I also flew in to Paris and took a 7am train (TGV) to
St. Etienne, connecting with a brand new lovely local train that took
another hour to LePuy.

There are indeed many Black Madonna sites along the way, starting with a
famous one in the LePuy Cathedral, but also in many of the smaller,
fantastic Romanesque churches. Do take your time to go into all you
see...they were open any time I tried.

The train system in southern France consists of many little local trains and
you're never that far from a train line---take a cab if you need to, as I
did to get back to Paris from Conques. That was a half hour cab ride to St.
Christophe, but you could also cab to Figeac. No bus system, TransBaggage, a
van that takes baggage for some pilgrims also carries people if you ask.
I'm not sure as far as St. Jean, but the train maps are easy to
read...depends where you'll stop. It is about a month's journey from LePuy
to St. Jean.

All the best...perhaps I'll see you in Paris or in Conques.
