August doldrums

They call it the 'Silly Season' on British papers, TV news coverage - once you get away from the horrors of the international scene - isn't much better either.

I quite miss that little envelope as it pops up in the corner, it makes a welcome relief to designing water supply systems on a hot and humid day in the office when I could be striding across the Meseta in th eglaring sun!

Still, it's a public holiday weekend in the UK and I'm off to get in some practice.

Have a good weekend all

Jeffrey

I find it amusing to see the current group going through the same old
concern about the dearth of group e-mail in August. It hasn't been
consistent every year, but going back 5 or 6 years to the old UCLA listserv
it was typical for the camino e-mail traffic to drop off in August. (As the
pilgrim traffic on the camino itself climbs?)

This phenomenon is well known to journalists. For some reason or other,
perhaps because many people are on vacation, the volume of news falls off
during August and the newspapers end up digging up all sorts of oddball
stories just to fill in the space.
