Douglass,

I've spent a lot of time travelling throughout the Islamic world.
Normally I travel in Turkey - I've been lucky enought to visit there multiple
times. However, almost immediately following my completion of the pilgrimage
route I spent two glorious weeks travelling across Morocco.

I've always found the people in that part of the world to be incredibly
friendly and generous. Sadly, there is some disrust of Americans. Somehow,
the United States has gotten a reputation as being extremely closeminded if not
outright bigoted. But this to shall pass.

As long as we're on the subject of Arabs. I found that the traditional Middle
Eastern head dress is an incredible practical head covering. It does a
wonderful job of shielding the head, neck, and eyes from the sun. It packs
down very easily, is lightweight, and even soaks up sweat. Wonderful things
for heading across the Mesata. [Muc better than a hat]
