St. Lawrence was killed in Rome, in 258AD, only a few days aftrer Pope Sixtus II; he was slow roasted, and is usually depicted in sacred art with an iron grill and wearing the dalmatic of a deacon. The sacred cup (not yet embelished into the form of a chalice) was thought to have come to Rome during Peter's time, where it remained from about 200 yrs; and it was from Rome that St. Lawrence entrusted the cup to a fellow Spaniard for removal to Spain. Once in Spain, it moved around quite a lot....
