A Train Question

Fellow peregrinos --

I'm leaving a week from today.  How necessary is it to have advanced train 
reservations on the Renfe train from Madrid to Léon?  I have accessed Renfe's 
website for the timetable, but I haven't made the leap to reserving a seat.  
Which train I catch depends on the timliness of my inbound flight.  In 
summation, are reservations critical?  (I tried calling pero hablo espanol un 
poco.)
