Hi you all,
    During the month of  April  2,136 pilgrims walked to Santiago, 310 went
by bicycle and 7 rode horses.  The total April pilgrims this year, 2,453,
were 37 less than in April 2001.
    212 of the pilgrims were over 60 years old, 1,064 between 30 and 60 years
old and 1,175 were under thirty years of age. 936 were women and 1,517 were
men.
    Over 93% of the pilgrims declared a religious motive for making the
pilgrimage.
    Of the 1,036 pilgrims who were not from Spain the largest group came from
Germany, 219, followed by France, 191, Portugal, 174, The United Kingdom, 62,
and the rest came from 29 various other countries.
    About 10% of the pilgrims, 242, were professors; 837 were students and
the rest were of varied professions and occupations
    670 of the pilgrims commenced their pilgrimage in Sarria, 241 in O
Cebreiro, 186 in SJPP, 186 in Roncesvalles, 148 in Leon, 119 in Astorga,
another 119 in Ponferrada, and the rest came from various starting points,
all more than 100 or 200 kilometers from Santiago.
    Again, the above figures represent only the pilgrims who received the
Compostela by virtue of having covered the prescribed distances.  The
pilgrims who did not complete the pilgrimage, or did not seek the Compostela,
are not included.
