Yes, I have a bad lumbar area with two degenerated discs.  I have insoles
made by the impression method so that each reflects the sole exactly.
Important also is to have your spine perfectly straight when you hike.  This
is impossible if one leg is shorter than the other.  College trained
Orthopods say that up to 1/2 inch of  leg-length difference is normal and
not to be the cause for worry or remedy.  I don't accept this so I consult a
chiropractor, make the insoles, and then have him adjust my heel height with
the addition of material to the insole heel until the spine is vertical.  My
case is anecdotal but so far so good...Sanchez
