Raincoat vs. Poncho?

If you get into those really long drenching rains, nothing beats a raincoat
and rainpants. If you don't plan to take the rainpants then go with the
poncho. A raincoat will shed the rain directly onto your slacks, shorts,
shoes or whatever else it does not cover. So just the raincoat will
guarantee that you are soaked from somewhere north of the knees on down. I
used a poncho until I got a good pair of Goretex-type rainpants and a good
raincoat. They are well worth it. (Both cost and weight)
