Backpacks

Hi,
I have scanned the archives to get this information and currently wait in
anticipation for the Frequently Asked Questions page to arrive, but as I'm my
leaving date approaches I'm here asking a question that I have no doubt has
been asked many times before.

I need some advice on what kind of bag to get. I would like to take the
smallest possible but not sure what is too small. In my local EMS store,
I've found 2000cm bags and 4000+. I'm sure that I don't want to carry
anything 4000+ for 500miles. The guy in the store told me that a 3000-3500
bag would probably be right for my trip. They hadn't received the new
arrivals yet, and were unsure of the date of arrival for the new
merchandising being that the backpacking season was just about to begin. So,
I was unable to try them on.

Questions: What size bag did you use and would you have gone smaller or
larger? Some were specifically designed for women, can any female pilgrims
share information on selecting a bag? Anyone know of stores in NYC (I know
about EMS and Paragon) that specialize in this kind of equipment? Websites
links would also be appreciated.

Thanks
Jen Mann
