helpful book/guide

I would read Paulo Coelho's "the pilgrimage."  Ok, so it isn't a guide but a
novel, but it is really good.  I read it before mine.

As for guide books, I don't have that kind of mind.  I just showed up and
started following the yellow arrows.  Before i knew it I was in Santiago
wishing I had more time.

I found that so many others have guides, and most of the hostels do too, why
bother carrying the weight - just look at others that will be floating in
the hostel and make a note of them.  You will get used on the first day to
looking for the little yellow arrows (or red and white G10) trail markers.
And you will also get used to in the evenings looking for the arrow at the
hostel that indicates the way out of town for the next morning!
