Hi Rae,

Well, I paid the price for the Mephistos and was very happy with
them.Walked quite a lot before leaving, but still after a few
daysgot a small blister on one little toe. nothing serious. No
matter how tired I was, once I got the shoes (ankle high) on I felt like
walking!!!

I had sent a quierie to the "national podiatric assocation" or
something like that and asked about shoes. The Dr. who answered gave some
suggestionsand said Mephistos were fine but that she used ECCO 's...
I had alreadygotten the Mephisto's , but went to look at the Ecco's
which I thought seemed quite like the Mephisots, but probably had
slightly softer leather. Both gore-tex.

I am sure mine were waterproof, but could you believe I walked
for 32 daysand never experienced rain--or walked through a
stream or river,etc.

The Eccos were $180 and I paid $280 for the Mephistos.
(inwashington , dc) After I took them off in the afternoon, for a while I
felt
like a cripple because my arches had to readjust to little/no support.

In Burgos I purchased (at a Dr. Sholls-like pharmacy) insoles
which wereclear silicon-like and had small (blue) areas at the
ball of the foot and under the heel....which provided an extra bit of
'bounce'......these Ifound to be absolutely wonderful.... I never had any
tiredness on foot-bottoms after that. Only problem, they are a bit
'sticky' and you haveto take care getting your feet in without
readjusting the stockings. Air-dry your feet and put on new clean, dry
stockings a couple times during the day.

My husband examined my shoes after I returned and said they
didn't look like they had been worn!....So, I guess I am good
for another Camino!

cheers.
