August and September pilgrims

Hi you all,
The Santiago Archdiocese reports that 19,836  pilgrims received the
Compostela in August, 2001, (there were 17,659 during the same period in
2000).  Of these, 15,730 walked, 4,051 went by bicycle, 54 rode horses and
one went by wheelchair.
The pilgrims started out in various places:  2,767 began the pilgrimage in
Sarria, 2,564 in Roncesvalles, 2,087 in O Cebreiro, 1,999 in Ponferrada,
1,782 in Leon, 1,319 in Burgos, 1,097 in Saint Jean Pied de Port, 691 in
Burgos and the rest from various places, all more than 100 kms. away from
Santiago.
75% of the pilgrims were from Spain; of the rest, the largest number came
from Italy (!), followed by France, Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Austria, the
UK, Holland and American countries (principally Brazil, U.S.A., Canada &
Mexico).
48% of the pilgrims were under 30 years old, 5-% were between 30 and 60 years
of age and 2% were over 60 years old.
92% of the pilgrims declared their reason for the pilgrimage to have been
religious, and the rest declared a cultural motivation.
11,767 of the pilgrims were men and 8,069 were women.
90% of the pilgrims followed the French Way, 4% the Portuguese Way, another
4% the Northern Way, 1.6% the Silver Way, and of the rest, 24 pilgrims
followed the English Way (?).

In September, 2001, 7,641 pilgrims received the Compostela.  61.4% were males
and 38.6% were females. 5,867 pilgrims walked, 1,753 rode bicycles, 50 went
on horseback and one rode a wheelchair.
35% of the pilgrims were under thirty years old, 55% were between 30 and
sixty years of age and 10% were over sixty years old.
Again the largest number of pilgrims came from Spain, 4,617.  Of those from
abroad, 739 came from Germany, 447 from France, 234 from Italy, 213 from
Brasil, 163 from the United Kingdom, 158 from the U.S.A., 155 from Belgium,
126 from Switzerland, 126 from Holland, 116 from Austria and the rest from
Portugal, the Nordic countries, Canada and Mexico.
Now, .....947 started out in Roncesvalles, 914 in Saint Jean Pied de Port,
913 in Sarria, 735 in O Cebreiro, 723 in Leon, 545 in Ponferrada, 453 in
Astorga, 360 in Pamplona, 288 in Villafranca, 251 in Burgos and the rest from
several other places, all more than 100 kilometers away.
93% of the pilgrims followed the French Way, 2.5% the Portuguese way,  2.5%
the Northern  Way, l.5% the Silver Way and the rest followed other routes
including 9 walkers who followed the English Way.
