To Barry and Luisa
and all...
thank you for mentioning the need to be flexible on the camino. It is of the
utmost importance. One really needs to take the time, stay an extra day if
your knee hurts, or walk more slowly one day if necessary.
I found myself caught up in a rush of folks every morning scrambling to get
ready and leave the refugio - almost marching onward - to the next one so
they would get a bed. This initially, was most disconcerting for me. I am
not a competitive person, and certainly did not want this to be some sort of
marathon hike.
It took a few days for me to realize my own speed, and more importantly, to
realize that I was doing this for me (and my son who was with me). One
should try to separate oneself from the other peregrinos, in this respect, in
order to reap the bounty of the Camino. The peace, the light and the energy
that is Spain.
