Hi Lois, I do not know, and have not heard, of any thefts in the albergues themselves. Last year someone reported that his Walkman had been stolen from his backpack, but he did nor say whether this happened in the refugio or outside. Pilgrims do take off their backpacks while eating, taking a nap on the grass, etc., so I really cannot tell. Regards, Rosina
