ATM's

The ATM's provide the currency of the local country. Your account will be
charged the equivalent number of dollars based on the exchange rate at the time
of the transaction. ATM's in Europe often provide the option of having the
screen in English. However, the keyboard buttons are in the local language, so
it helps to check your phrase book in the money matters section. In Oloron, I
had heard that some ATM's offered the option of delivering either francs or
pesetas. I wanted to have some pesetas on hand before entering Spain, so I tried
out a couple of those that were supposed to provide that option. Unfortunately,
neither of them worked that way. I ended up buying pesetas in the bank, but this
was definitely more expensive.
