Books, maps, fraternities?

I'm on the Confraternity of St James website.

Does anyone belong to this?  If you do, what are the real benefits?
Does anyone recommend books or maps or should we wait till we get there to
get these things?  Lonely Planet?
I'm going to get this down to a science!
