leaving a beloved staff at home

You all may find this a bit funny, but I have been given a bathroom curtain
rod as a staff by an elderly gentleman on one of my hikes. He put a rubber
cap at the bottom and wrapped the top (about a foot and a half) with black
tape. This staff has gone with me everywhere I went since then and has been
of great service; I plan to take it on the Camino when finally I will be able
to go.
