Greetings: I would also like to know the answer to the best landing site
for starting the trip from St. Jean Pied-de-Port. I presume I can find a
train schedule on the iNet as to actually getting from anywhere to St.
J...... but if there are some good tips, I'd like to hear..

Also-- SHOES Today I tried on Mephisto's and they are wonderfully
comfortable. Some other brabds at the Hudson Trailers (here in Washington
DC) are also good. Question for experienced hikers.... what is best... the
boots that just come up to and cover the ankle, or the ones that rise about
1/5-2 inches above the anke. The shorter ones are more comfortable for
just walking around in the store... but it will be different 'on the
trail'."

AND, if the refugios are full at more-or-less noon, it means that one has
only to go to a hostel/hotel? Do you think that with the increase in
numbers, the 'locals' will increase the possibilities? Perhaps I just have
to wait and see!!!

Caroline M--- thanks for the 'packing list'

-- and for all the other good information from other correspondents!
